Situated on a 20-acre parcel in the Napa Valley, this house had virtually no connection to the stunning property surrounding it. The owner wanted to overhaul the interior to make it an inviting place for family gatherings and off-site business meetings. KPa+d opened up the floor plan, to transform the kitchen, wine closet and pantry into a single space with views over an expanded patio towards a nearby creek and footbridge. In the event of a crowd too large for the long dining table before the new full-length windows, we designed a banquet top to convert the billiards table in the adjacent room into extra place settings. The front entry, which had been oppressively dim even during daytime, gained a skylight, providing an emblematic welcome to a house now flooded with natural light.
